A new multi-coloured ‘Buddy Bench’ has been installed in the playground at Sheringham Woodfields School as a tribute to a former pupil.
The bench is a tribute to Luke Blower, who died in 2023 at the age of 22.
He attended the school from 2004 to 2020 and was highly regarded by those who cared for him.
Luke had complex learning and health needs, and his parents, Julie and Jason Lamb, wanted a lasting memorial to honour his memory.
They believed a Buddy Bench — where children can sit to signal they would like someone to talk or play with — would be enjoyed by many pupils at the school.
On Tuesday, July 15, they joined school staff to mark the installation of the bench.
Luke’s mother, Julie, said: “The team here at Sheringham Woodfields School did so much for Luke.
“They played a huge part in his life, enabling him to participate in so many activities, going with him on school outings, even accompanying him when he needed to travel to Norwich or King’s Lynn for hospital appointments.”
Sheringham Woodfields School is a purpose-built facility for 158 pupils with complex learning and health needs, supported by more than 160 staff.
