A nursery is one step closer to creating a new sensory garden.
Town Tots Nursery in North Walsham, run by The Benjamin Foundation, has received a £5,000 grant from the North Walsham Community Shop to help fund a sensory, food and wildlife garden at its Manor Road site.
The new space will be designed with children who have additional needs in mind.
Bob Wright, trustee at North Walsham Community Shop, said: "We are really pleased to have been able to support this project.
"North Walsham Community Shop sells items donated by the local community and uses the funds raised to support local projects.
"We look forward to seeing all the improvements that will be made to give the children a much-improved outdoor space to be in."
The existing garden is in need of an upgrade to better support the nursery’s focus on outdoor learning and development.
Jane Medler, nursery manager at Town Tots, said: "Being outside in a safe, secure and exciting environment gives our children the confidence to try things, learn things and express themselves.
"The children we care for like to be outside – in all weathers.
"A huge thank you to the Community Shop for their donation of £5,000.
"It is going to make a major difference to the children’s early years development here at Town Tots."
The sensory garden will feature areas for planting, digging and hands-on activities to help children with sensory processing.
It will also include nature zones to encourage curiosity and learning about the natural world.
Town Tots supports around 50 children each year, focusing on early years development and preparing them for primary school.
The community shop is run entirely by volunteers and is always looking for new members to join.
Anyone interested in volunteering is encouraged to get in touch.
