Fifteen Cubs and Beavers from the Holt 1st Scout Group have opened The Hive, a new creative hub located at the Kelling Heath Holiday Park in North Norfolk.

This is the first in a line-up of events to celebrate the Timewell family’s forty-year ownership of the Park in 2024.

The Hive, reflecting the park's dedication to wildlife and anticipated lively events, will provide a welcoming area for park visitors and community groups.

Paul Timewell, the park's director, said: “Throughout our forty years of ownership we have been committed to preserving the unique natural environment of Kelling Heath for future generations to enjoy, not just for our guests, but for local community groups as well.

“We are delighted to have welcomed the Holt Cubs and Beavers to officially open The Hive.”

As part of the celebration, the young Cubs and Beavers engaged in a craft activity making red squirrel ears.

They were informed about the national red squirrel breeding program by the Kelling Heath countryside team.

The park has successfully bred forty young squirrels, called kittens, to contribute to the preservation of this endangered species.

Group scout leader of Holt, Trevor Banks, said: “We were delighted to be asked to officially open The Hive, it was a fantastic opportunity for our young people.

"Kelling Heath is a wonderful location for them to carry out activities both indoors and outdoors in a safe environment, getting closer to nature whilst receiving guidance from Kelling Heath’s Countryside Team, who know so much about the wildlife and environment on Park.”

Other commemorative events scheduled for the 40th anniversary include the unveiling of a historical cairn and a timeline presentation to highlight significant milestones in Kelling Heath’s journey.

More information about these events is available on the Kelling Heath website.
