A beloved Norfolk landmark has won a prestigious award following a £2m investment.

Cromer Pier was named Pier of the Year 2024 by the National Piers Society – the third time it has scooped the prize.

North Norfolk District Council has invested £2m into the pier over the past two years including a refurbishment of the Pavilion Bar, improved toilet facilities and extensive substructure works.

Tim Adams, leader of North Norfolk District Council, said: “This is a wonderful 123rd birthday present for Cromer Pier, recognising the scale of investment that has or is due to take place, with the bar, structure, and in future with the dressing rooms.

"It also comes during a year when the seafront is seeing major investment in sea defences, which will be a spectacle itself.

“We are so lucky to be in the position we are with our pier, with so many other towns nationally having struggled to maintain their own.”

Cromer Pier features the world's only full-season variety show and the Pavilion Theatre is one of five pier theatres still open in the country.

More than 70,000 people attend shows at the pier each year, including the award-winning summer and winter shows.

Sean Garrett, general manager at Cromer Pier, added: “We are delighted to receive the Pier of The Year award from the National Pier Society for a third time.

"It is a lovely reward for the hard-working team on the Cromer Pier.

"The working partnership we have built up with North Norfolk District Council over the past 20 years, has helped bring the iconic Norfolk pier to the forefront, both as a year-round tourist destination and also helping to keep theatre alive, in the Pavilion Theatre.”

An official award ceremony will be held on the opening night of The Cromer Pier summer show.
