This Norfolk market town has been named one of the prettiest in the UK making it well worth a visit this spring.

The historic Georgian town of Holt in north Norfolk is close to the popular seaside destinations of Sheringham and Cromer but is worth a trip in its own right.

The town is a great place to explore with independent art galleries, antique and book shops and plenty of places to eat.

Holt is host to one of the UK's best afternoon tea spots- Byfords in Shirehall Plain, also a B&B,  which serves afternoon tea daily, with an unlimited version available on the last Sunday of every month.

A hotspot for foodies, the town centre is bustling with independent cafés and restaurants including the Michelin-starred Meadowsweet,  run by chef Greg Anderson and his partner Rebecca Williams.

The town scooped national attention in November as it was named one of the prettiest in the UK by the Telegraph.

Martin Dunford from The Telegraph said that Holt has “all the things that make both visiting and living here a pleasure”.

A 100-acre country park sits just a short walk out of the town centre and offers the chance to picnic under sprawling woodland with oak, pine and silver birch trees.

The town also has a stop on one of the UK's most scenic railway journeys.

The five-and-a-half-mile Poppy Line runs along the Sheringham coastline before turning inland through the countryside between Weybourne and Holt.
