A roundabout which has been described as one of the most dangerous in Norfolk is set to come under scrutiny at a meeting next week.

There has been at least six accidents at the A148 Cromer Road roundabout in Holt since it was built in 2016 - including two in the past four months.

Locals now fear lives could be lost on the roundabout, after a "Chelsea tractor" - a red Range Rover - careered over the north Norfolk roundabout and through a steel fence, before stopping just short of residents' Woodpecker Avenue homes last month.

Now, North Norfolk MP Duncan Baker has called an emergency meeting into the safety of the roundabout with residents and Norfolk County Council Highways.

The meeting will take place at the A148 Cromer Road roundabout in Holt next Monday (February 12), at 11am.

Mr Baker said: "The meeting has been called due to the consistent pattern of accidents that have occurred on the roundabout over a sustained period of time.

"With no illumination or speed calming measures, these accidents are only going to continue.

"The proximity that cars have ended up so close to residents' front doors has to be addressed before someone is seriously injured."

The most recent accident at the roundabout happened in the early hours of the morning of Sunday, January 28.

Police were called to Woodpecker Avenue at 2am after reports of a vehicle driving around which appeared to have been involved in a collision.

The driver, a woman in her 40s, was later arrested in Holt town centre on suspicion of drink driving.

Previously, in October last year, a van mounted the kerb of the roundabout, smashing through a hedge near people's homes.

Residents reported their concerns to Norfolk County Council after the incident in October, claiming the roundabout is dangerous because it is unlit with a 60mph national speed limit approaching it from both sides.
