A north Norfolk man has objected to an upcoming venue's application to play music and host events until 3am over fears it will be a repeat of the past.

It was revealed recently that a former East Runton bar and grill, Sammy's, will be transformed into a new "high-end" restaurant called the White Horse under owners Carl and Katie Stairs.

The husband and wife team are refurbishing the premises inside and out with the aim to reopen next summer, calling it a "community-involved evolution" for the village.

But some have objected to the couple's plan to offer outdoor entertainment until 3am, Monday to Sunday, which has been laid out in a recently-lodged planning application to North Norfolk District Council.

Cliff Andrews, who shares a wall with the White Horse in High Street, said: "As you may be aware the White Horse is in a residential area and no signage was placed outside to say they were planning such late events."

"We've had historic noise nuisance from the former Sammy’s Bar and we're alerting the local community of it possibly happening again."

Mr Andrews claimed communication with White Horse owner Carl Stairs began amicably when the renovation was revealed but soon devolved once Mr Andrews' objections were discovered.

"We started off really well," Mr Andrews said.

"Carl offered to repair our roof at his expense and we were also planning walls together to reduce noise transmission and vibration to our house by music outside.

"But after I enquired with the council about noise concerns, he found out and immediately stopped all negotiation and contact with us.

"In my opinion, his behaviour is not consistent with the way he chooses to portray himself to the public and in the media."

Carl Stairs responded: "We appreciate the opportunity to clarify our position and plans, which we believe align well with the community's interests.

"It's essential to emphasise that the application does not extend our licensed hours or the outside area."

"We have been actively engaging with the East Runton community, and the feedback on our renovation plans has been overwhelmingly positive.

He added: "Regarding the concern raised by Mr Andrews, his preferences do not align with our vision for the White Horse, which we believe will serve the area's interests much better.

"Our focus is on creating a quality establishment, complete with skilled vocalists on select evenings to foster a vibrant atmosphere and provide premium entertainment for our guests."

Mr Andrews has since printed flyers that encourage the neighbourhood to comment on the application ahead of its January 3 consultation deadline.

Carl and Katie Stairs have issued concept images of how the White Horse will look once completed which shows outdoor seating on a raised patio at the front of the premises.
