Flood gates are set to close across Norfolk this weekend due to high tides.

The Environment Agency is monitoring weather conditions and water levels in the coming days ahead of expected high tides in the county.

Spring tides occur twice a month and are caused by the Earth, Moon, and Sun all aligning, meaning average tidal ranges are slightly larger.

The spring tides at the beginning of September are the second highest of the entire year.

The peak tides are on Friday and Saturday but will remain high until Monday.

The Environment Agency and partner organisations are monitoring the situation closely, but are currently expecting that flood gate closures will need to be put in place.

The routine closures are likely to be in place from Friday along the Norfolk coast and the Norfolk Broads.
