He has spent the past couple of years painting and selling stones to support a lifesaving cause.

And now Sheringham nine-year-old Elias Fenn has been honoured at Sheringham Lifeboat Day, after presenting the town’s RNLI station with £170 from his artistic efforts.

It comes on top of £130 Elias raised the previous year. 

Chris Taylor, the station’s deputy senior helmsman, presented Elias with a book signed by the crew for his fundraising. 

Mr Taylor said: “Elias’s dedication and commitment to helping the RNLI with his wonderful painted stones is an absolute inspiration.

“Elias is a huge fan of the RNLI and being a local lad we hope one day that he will join us as part of the crew, he would be a huge asset with his fantastic attitude.”

Hundreds of people flocked to the lifeboat day to see demonstrations including a mock rescue of a swimmer - played by Sheringham helmsman Steve Banks - and a joint demonstration involving Sheringham lifeboat and both of Cromer’s lifeboats.

There were also displays by the local HM Coastguard team, a tombola with prizes donated by local businesses, a teddy tombola, refreshments stall and a welly wanging competition.

The Sheringham Shantymen put on a free performance and at 3pm the annual lifeboat service was held with representatives from all of Sheringham’s churches attending and music provided by the Sheringham Salvation Army band.

Long-time supporters of RNLI Sheringham, the Oddfellows Friendly Society, presented a plaque to commemorate 60 years of support.

Stephan and Anna Marriott of the Two Lifeboats pub laid on a barbecue for the lifeboat crew and their families. 

A record-breaking £2,535 was raised over the day for the RNLI. 

Brian Farrow, the station’s operations manager, said he wanted to thank the people and businesses of the town for their support.
