The closure of a busy bridge for resurfacing works has been delayed until next year.

Last year, Norfolk County Council announced plans to close Wayford Bridge, near Stalham, so its surface could be stripped, waterproofed and resurfaced.

The works were originally scheduled to take place over three weeks starting in September 2022, but the project was pushed back to October this year.

Now, the bridge closure and subsequent works have been delayed once more - being postponed until October 2024.

Norfolk County Council said this is due to the Wayford Bridge being used as a diversion route for HGVs during National Highways’ planned works on the A47 over the coming months.

A Norfolk County Council spokesperson said: “Utilising the same considerations for avoiding peak holiday seasons and trying to obtain favourable weather for the successful application of the waterproofing material, it is expected to be reprogrammed for October 2024.

“Any concerns raised by locals and businesses during the recent consultation process will be carried forward when reprogramming the scheme.

"We will provide further updates on the proposals when available.”
