Plans to replace a "dangerous" rotten footbridge between a north Norfolk town and village could cost more than £6,000.

The wooden bridge is located in The Commons between Sheringham and Beeston Regis and there are hopes it can be replaced after complaints it has become rotten and dangerous.

The bridge was put in place by a woman in memory of her husband, who has also since died.

Beeston Regis Parish Council's clerk Peter Bullimore asked the town council to help cover the cost of rebuilding the bridge, which has been quoted at £6,020.

The motion was tabled at Sheringham Town Council’s full council meeting on Tuesday (July 18).

Town mayor Peter Ratcliffe said STC could cover the bridge repair cost as a “gesture of goodwill” to the neighbouring village, as Beeston Regis Parish Council's percept pot is just £12,500 for the year.

But the plans are in their early stages and a decision is yet to be made.

A replacement bridge and steps would be made using recycled materials.
