It was marketed as the 'world’s supreme small car’ and it cost just £358.

Seventy-five years have passed since the Morris Minor first rolled off the production line and into the hearts of a nation.

The anniversary of the iconic ‘Moggie’ is being marked across the UK, including at Blickling Estate, where the North Norfolk Morris Minor Owners Club held a meeting.

John Arnott, the club’s chairman, said it was the perfect opportunity to celebrate the vehicle that got many British families on the road for the first time.

Mr Arnott said: “Over the whole time during the production new models were designed to include four-door, vans, pick-ups, and of course the wood-paneled Traveller.

“Many were sold abroad and the armed services also employed them.

"The first models had a 948cc engine and many will remember the trafficators and what was known as the two-piece split windscreen.”

The north Norfolk club has about 40 members and more than 30 Morris Minors, and will be marking the anniversary with appearances at shows and fetes throughout the summer.

More than a million Morris Minors were produced between 1948 and 1972.
