The gates of 12 private gardens in a popular north Norfolk coastal village are about to be thrown open to visitors.

The 'Wiveton Wander' will raise money for repairs to the village church, which was damaged in a storm in August 2019.

Noel Bolingbroke-Kent, from Wiveton, said it would be a rare chance to peek behind the walls of some beautifully kept gardens.

He said: "On hopefully a sunny day and on payment of £5, people will, as the name suggests, be able to wander around 12 private gardens owned by garden enthusiasts, two of which were designed by George Carter.

"In addition, there will be teas and cakes, a Pimms tent and Emma Bridgwater mugs will be for sale."

The open gardens event will take place on Saturday, June 10, between 10.30am and 4.30pm.

Wiveton's St Mary's was forced to close after a roof beam fell from the ceiling of the church and crashed onto the altar and then onto a communion rail.

But enough money has been raised to start basic repair work on the chancel roof which it is hoped will be finished by the end of the year.
