Metalworking will be on the menu after a north Norfolk ‘men's shed’ moves to new premises.

Stalham Men’s Shed - which also welcomes women - has been in the town’s High Street for two years, but has now got hold of a larger site in Moore’s Yard.

The new shed is scheduled to open on June 1 and Ray Woolston, its chairman, said it would be a step up.

Mr Woolston said: “Because of the small size of the [High Street] building it was always going to be a stepping stone until larger premises became available.

“With the move comes the opportunity for members to do not only woodwork but also metalwork including welding, metal turning, plasma cutting, etcetera.

“It is hoped that the shed’s opening hours will increase to include a couple of evenings a week and Saturday mornings if there is enough interest.”

Mr Woolston said they also planned to run special taster sessions, aimed at women, to teach basic skills in power tool use, wood turning and carving.

He said: “Other taster sessions may also include pyrography, metalwork, metal sculpting and anything else which people may be interested in.”

He said anyone who wanted to see the new premises would be welcome to attend an open day on a Saturday morning in June, with the date to be announced.

He added: “If you are in town then you can always pop your head around the door.

“At present, we are open Monday, Tuesday and Friday from 9am to 1pm.

Metalworkers who may be able to pass on their skills to others at the shed have been asked to contact Mr Woolston by calling 07437 707213 or emailing stalhammensshed@gmail.com.
