She failed to give Henry VIII a son and paid with her life.

In the shadow of the Tower of London, Anne Boleyn was executed 487 years ago by the stroke of a Frenchman's sword.

And tomorrow (May 19) the anniversary of her death will be commemorated at Blickling Estate, where she is thought to have been born along with her siblings, Mary and George.

Heather Jermy, Blickling's general manager, will don a Tudor dress to play the part of Anne for a precession down the drive towards the hall.

She will be joined by costumed members of Blickling's living history team, and a drumbeat will accompany the march.

Visitors are asked to arrive by 11.45am to watch the event, which will start at midday.

Some say Anne's headless ghost returns to the estate each year on the anniversary of her death. As night falls, the legend says, a ghostly coach drives up to the house, driven by a headless horseman, who carries Anne's own head on his lap.

But when the coach arrives in front of the house, it vanishes into thin air.
