They say it will be the most inclusive playpark in the whole of Norfolk.

But a team of parents and supporters from the Suffield Park area of Cromer have a £50,000 mountain to climb before they can start turning their dreams into reality.

For that is how much the Cromer Youth and Skate Charity still have to raise towards the plan for Fearns Park, after the town council agreed to pay £54,000 of the overall cost.

The project is already three-and-a-half years in the making.

North Norfolk District Council (NNDC) has agreed to maintain and clean the playpark once it is finally built.

Emma Spagnola, mum of two autistic sons and Cromer’s deputy mayor, said: “This has taken longer than we wished but we are nearly there, it will be wonderful to have a place for children to play together regardless of their needs and it is wonderful that both NNDC and Cromer Town Council have jumped on board."

The project is an expansion of an existing playpark at the site, which sits between Station Road and Park Road.

The new additions to the park will not only be suitable for children with disabilities, but also for those aged eight and under.

Additions will include a wheelchair roundabout, a trampoline and a multiplay unit.

Other features will include a basket swing, a cradle with seats for a parent and infant, a curly slide, a hammock and a fireman’s pole.

There will also be interactive panels and a panel where children can learn to sign the word ‘hello’ in British Sign Language.

Milton Keynes-based firm Kompan - which makes use of recycled plastics - has been chosen to build and install the equipment.
