Measures to hold back the sea including sea walls and sea banks were discussed at a meeting of the Norfolk Strategic Flooding Alliance.

Henry Cator, the group’s new chairman, was at Holkham Hall to lead the meeting, which focused on threats to the coastline between Brancaster and Wells-next-the-Sea.

The event brought together landowners and local councillors with MPs and representatives of groups including the Environment Agency.

Mr Cator, who took over from Lord Richard Dannatt as chairman in January, said: "It was an important opportunity to bring together key stakeholders to discuss the challenges posed by coastal erosion and the risk of flooding along the north Norfolk coast.”

The meeting gave an opportunity for locals to share their experience of living in areas at risk of flooding and erosion and ask questions.

Andrew Jamieson, Norfolk Coast Partnership chairman, said: “We have some truly beautiful and unique coastline in Norfolk, and that comes with a duty to manage and protect these areas from flooding and erosion.

“The impact of climate change is increasingly apparent, and we must take action now to safeguard our coastal areas.”
