Sea shanties and folk songs will be sung at Sheringham's parish church to raise money for earthquake victims.

The Sheringham Shantymen will perform at St Peter's on Saturday, March 11.

Entry is free and there will be a collection for the DEC (Disasters Emergency Committee) Turkey-Syria Earthquake Appeal.

During an interval, there will be refreshments and an auction to raise further funds, with lots on offer including a 30-minute helicopter flight along the north Norfolk coast for two people, a framed print by photographer and Shantyman Chris Taylor, a guided trout fly-fishing trip on the River Glaven, including lunch, and more.

Brian Farrow, musical director, said: “It promises to be a great evening, performing to a packed St Peter’s church is always very enjoyable and the buzz inevitably spreads to the audience.

"We look forward to this late-notice performance and hope to do what we can to help the unfortunate folks in Turkey and Syria in their time of need.”

The Shantymen are hoping to repeat the success of events it held for Ukraine last year, which raised almost £5,000.
