Community activities will be at the heart of a £250,000 transformation of a church in Stalham.

Norfolk County Council has awarded the town’s Baptist church the money as part of a bid to improve social infrastructure across the county.

Maggie Harpur, church trustee, said she was thrilled about the grant for the High Street venue’s community rooms.

She said: “This funding will mean our exciting vision of an inclusive space for everyone in Stalham can now go ahead.

“Stalham Baptist Church is a local church with its community at heart and we can’t wait to get the project off the ground so that we can extend the range of our activities and support even more people in need in the local community.

“We want to see people’s lives transformed and hope restored.”

The county council is handing out £770,000 in its current round of social infrastructure funding.

Another recipient is Aylsham Community Church, which will get £28,000 to transform its Jubilee Family Centre into a warm and welcoming community space.
