A group of teachers from schools across Norfolk have teamed together to make a film raising awareness about internet safety.

The movie, called Age of Wolves, is told from a mother's perspective as her son is groomed by online extremists while playing videogames.

Dean Mooney, who directed the film and also lectures in media at Paston College in North Walsham, said they aim to submit the work into film festivals.

It will also be used as part of e-safety training, he said.

The script was written by Bel Greenwood.

Mr Mooney said: "The film should hopefully raise awareness of internet safety. The most obvious and appropriate areas are child services, fostering, safeguarding and information to parents and guardians."

The filmmakers have also created a resource, with tips on how to spot dangers, that can be found in the description link on their YouTube channel.

While making the film, a worrying coincidence only reinforced their reasons for making it.

"My ten-year-old son was playing video games when he was messaged by a person asking to meet with him," Mr Mooney said.

"My son did the right thing. He told us about it. But what would happen if he didn't have that sense?

"It is a concern."

He said the film is not intended to be a criticism of videogames which he thinks have many benefits.

"But a lot of parents don't understand that with some of the games, people can contact their children.

"We want people to be on top of that. It can be scary but there are solutions."

The film was shot last summer in a house in Norwich, with some scenes on Mousehold Heath and others in City College.

Ruth Dennis plays the mother, Siobhan, while the cast also includes Noel Mather as the son and Stuart Turner as his uncle.

Behind the camera was Chris Thompson, who also co-directed the movie, while sound was recorded by Frank Wall.

"I think it's a message that needs to get out there," Mr Mooney said.
