From finding an almost naked man asleep on a car to discovering buried treasure - you'd be amazed by what you can come across in Norfolk.

With this in mind, here are five of the oddest discoveries in the county so far this year.

1. Virtually naked man found asleep on car

North Norfolk News: A virtually naked man fell asleep on top of a car in Cromer

In one of the more bizarre incidents Norfolk has seen in recent years, a man dressed only in his pants and socks was caught on CCTV in a car park in Cromer.

Neighbours reported hearing "commotion" throughout the night and after trawling through footage, Tom Selby said he was "surprised" to see the semi-naked man having a nap on a car.

"I was a bit confused as to why he was in his socks and pants. It’s a first for me I have to admit," he said.

"I just found the whole thing funny."

The owner of the car remains unknown.

2. Large black animal spotted

North Norfolk News:

In August, city man Paul Oakley was alarmed after spotting a large black beast slinking through a field near the city.

Mr Oakley spotted the creature wandering through the grass off Atlantic Avenue, Sprowston, and was adamant what he saw was "not a cat or a dog".

After posting about it on Facebook, Mr Oakley said a member of the public who saw the post messaged him privately and suggested it could be a "black leopard".

But Kevin Murphy, who runs Norfolk Wildlife Rescue, believes Mr Oakley's sighting is unlikely to be a panther.

He said: "My first impression is that it is a domestic cat because the tail tip does not curl over enough to be a panther."

3. Three-foot snake found in house

North Norfolk News: Clive the albino corn snake crawled into bed with Iain Robertson, likely looking for somewhere warm to hide

Father-of-two Iain Robertson got the shock of his life when he woke up in bed to discover a snake slithering up his legs.

The surprise bedfellow was found as he lay in bed at his home in Foulsham, where he lives with his wife Candi and two sons.

He was alerted of the rogue reptile's presence by loyal cat Socks, who was hissing and ready to pounce on it.

The snake was later reunited with owner Simon, who was Ian's former neighbour, and the snake is back in his care a year after going missing.

4. Treasure chest found

Sprowston woman Jennie Fitzgerald got more than she bargained for after an unlikely discovery was made during a beach clean in March.

While searching for litter between Cart Gap and Happisburgh, Jennie Fitzgerald spotted something hiding behind a mound of sand which turned out to be a chest full of old coins and other trinkets.

Mrs Fitzgerald, 38, said: "I've never found anything like this on a beach before. Normally I'm looking for sea glass and shells so it was incredible to find something like this.

"I found the chest at the bottom of the cliffs behind a raised bank. It was covered in sand but is in fairly good condition considering how old it is."

5. Second World War gun battery found

North Norfolk News:

In March, the remains of what was thought to be a Second World War gun battery were unearthed on the north Norfolk coast.

Part of the brick structure at Skelding Hill, just to the west of Sheringham, was revealed by a work crew working on a Norfolk County Council upgrade of the Norfolk Coast Path.

Christopher Bird, from Kingston upon Thames, who penned a book on north Norfolk's Second World War sea defences, said it was an "exciting discovery".

Mr Bird said: "Remains of Norfolk’s batteries are thin on the ground, so I very much hope that these remains can be properly recorded and saved for the future."
