Nine decades of Norwich City memorabilia went under the hammer on Wednesday as a life-long Canaries fan watched his beloved collection net him 10,000.

Roy Blower, known by many as Mr Norwich City, decided to sell off 1000 items of sporting history ranging from 1920s season handbooks to a 2007 shirt signed by Dion Dublin.

As the programmes, signed footballs and framed photographs were sold at Keys' auction house in Aylsham, the devoted fan said it was difficult to let them go.

He said: 'I've got a tear in my eye. I just hope the people who bought the goods get as much joy over the years as I have collecting it.'

The memorabilia sold for a wide range of prices, with some boxes programmes going for just 10, while a packet of reserve team programmes from 1954 to1968 sold for a staggering 680 to a phone bidder.

But Mr Blower, 66, said he was disappointed a 1966 England World Cup shirt, signed by many of the players, did not sell. The red jersey, bought for 1,000 by the Canaries fan at a charity event, was expected to bring in about 1,250 but only managed a bid of 650, leading it to be withdrawn.

The former Lord Mayor of Norwich and former NCFC programme seller said: 'I would have been gutted if it went for that price. Perhaps I should hold onto it until the World Cup.'

Susan Nott and her daughter Fee bought several boxes of programmes from 2000 to 2009. The 52-year-old, who is a Canaries season ticket holder and sponsors two of the players, said: 'I think we got carried away a bit. A sale like this doesn't come up very often.'

Other lots included a number of international kits, European club shirts and an Ipswich Town print - which attracted no bids and a few boos from the room of mainly Norwich City devotees.
