THE air ambulance was called in when a man fell 50ft down a cliff at Sheringham on Sunday.
Coastguards said the vulnerable man from a local residential home was out with his carer when the accident happened.
He suffered head injuries during the fall, from the clifftops on the golf course, and landed on the promenade near the lifeboat station ramp.
Eyewitness Chris Taylor said the air ambulance initially landed on the cliff at Skelding Hill before dropping down on to the beach, where the tide was out, to collect the casualty.
A coastguard cliff rescue team, which had been practising near Mundesley, was scrambled to the scene and helped with the rescue operation.
The casualty was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge after the mid-afternoon incident which drew crowds of onlookers.
