Thieves targeting car park ticket machines are “stealing from north Norfolk council tax payers” says the councillor charged with trying to stop them.
Peter Moore, North Norfolk District Council's cabinet member for resources, who chairs the team discussing ways to stop the spate of thefts, says that so far the cost is £20,000.
At a cabinet meeting last month, Mr Moore asked for a working party to be set up to discuss ways to protect that income. The group, made up of district council officers and councillors, police and the North Norfolk Crime Reduction Partnership, had its first meeting last week and has already come up with some ideas.
One option is to replace the machines with a stronger model - the team will talk to other councils who have had similar issues to find out which ones are best.
