A Norfolk MP has raised more than £100,000 for local charities.

Duncan Baker, MP for North Norfolk, has broken his six-figure fundraising target ahead of his double marathon challenge, which gets under way this weekend.

Mr Baker is running the London Marathon this Sunday (April 21), followed by the Norfolk Marathon just seven days later.

He's raising money for 52 north Norfolk charities - one for every mile of his gruelling double marathon challenge.

The £100,000 he has raised to date is an accumulation of the money he has managed to raise since running his first marathon in 2021.

"I'm delighted that I've hit the £100,000 mark before the race," Mr Baker said.

"Now I'm very nervous about remaining injury-free because it's not just running one marathon, it's two. The big test is being able to recover in such a short space of time to run again.

"When I set out to start running in lockdown it was never to do this, it was to simply raise a bit of money for local charities. But it's been so successful and people have been so supportive that in the end I set about trying to raise £100,000.

"Now to be able to have broken that figure is incredible. I think we'll be on for in excess of £23,000 this year along which, given all the difficulties people are facing in life financially, I'm just blown away by.

"This is going to be a different kind of challenge because this time it's 52 different charities that are all going to benefit, so please keep donating."
