A country estate agent has announced the closure of its north Norfolk office following its takeover by another firm.

Pendefords, which is based in Horstead, is closing after five years of selling homes on the Norfolk Broads and surrounding areas.

Lucy and Gareth Headland, the firm's owners, will hand over the company and its property to Websters of Norwich before "pursuing a different direction" in the industry.

They said: "It's time for us to move on and it was important to us to ensure that we chose a professional agent to continue the good personal relationships that we've built with our clients over the years."

This is the fourth such takeover by Websters in recent years, following their purchases of Savannah Estates, First Lettings Norwich and Langfords Estates.

Charlie Webster, the managing director, said: "We were presented with the opportunity to take over from Pendefords and I instantly knew it was the right opportunity to expand our business.

While the property market has been difficult in the last year we are already seeing signs of recovery and I believe now is the time to extend our coverage to north Norfolk and the Broads."

Websters will be opening a new Horstead and Coltishall office on March 5.
