King’s Lynn Golf Club and Mundesley took part in a closely-fought Cullington Cup quarter-final. By lunch the visitors held a one hole lead but in the afternoon Cullington veteran Justin Williams and young star Josh Rudd turned a five-hole morning defeat into an afternoon victory by one hole, and so the tide started to turn. The final result was a home win for King’s Lynn by four holes.
Lynn travel to Barnham Broom on the August 12 for their semi-final.
Meanwhile, following a review by the Norfolk County Golf Union Weston Park and Thetford have been scratched from the competition for a breach of rules.
Mike Devlin, NCGU honorary secretary, explained: “Weston were hosts to a visiting Myhill Trophy match and a Cullington Cup match.
“The Myhill Trophy match suffered a suspension of play, notified the committee of their actions and resumed when conditions permitted and completed their match.
“This is fully in accord with the Rules & Regulations governing the competition. Unfortunately, the Cullington Cup match did not communicate their actions, left the course and agreed to return a week later.
“This is outside of the R&R and as such both teams are scratched from the competition.”
