Early goals prove enough for Harleston Magpies Ladies

PUBLISHED: 09:22 14 February 2017

Harleston Magpies Ladies secured a hard-fought 2-1 home win over Hampstead and Westminster in their latest East Conference fixture.

With Rose Winter making her National League debut Magpies started brightly and delighted a large crowd by scoring twice in the first 10 minutes.

The first came when a quick raid led to a short corner and a drag flick by Maria Andrews soared into the net. The second, a minute later, was a counter-attack which saw Andrews flick the ball over the keeper and Elizabeth Clymer tap in.

Charlotte Peet then made a great diving save from a short corner to keep Magpies two up at the break.

Hampstead started strongly in the second half and a scramble in the goalmouth resulted in the ball dribbling over the line, making the rest of the game a very tight and tense affair.

But with a couple of vital decisions going their way Magpies clung on for the win.
