Cromer Town’s new chairperson Jenna Bedwell revealed she is confident about the future of the club - both on and off the park - after a new committee was sworn in.

However, with lots of fundraising needed to keep the club going, she admitted that the season ahead could be the club’s hardest challenge yet.

And she is inviting the community to show their support at the start of a new era for the club.

The future of the club had been thrown into doubt after its long-serving committee announced it was resigning en masse at the end of a season which saw the club relegated from the Anglian Combination Premier Division.

The new committee was sworn in at the club’s AGM at Cabbell Park on Thursday.

Ms Bedwell said: “I’m a bit nervous about the new role but I’m looking forward to it.

“We’ve got some things in the pipeline. We are looking to get a premises licence at the clubhouse, and we are also looking to run bingo sessions, and get a pool table.”

The outgoing committee revealed the cost of running the club is estimated around £14,000 this season and that the club should be aiming to raise around £20,000 to carry it over to the following year.

Ms Bedwell said: “I’m mostly confident about the future. It’s always a bit difficult starting something new. But we are confident in getting over the hurdles, and that we know what we are doing. It was never going to be an easy task. This is the going to be the hardest year, and hopefully it will get easier after that.”

The former ladies team manager revealed she has proposed that every one of the outgoing committee members become Honorary Life Vice-Presidents of the club in recognition of their years of service.

Other new appointments at the AGM included secretary - Joanna Sadler-Barker; treasurer - Nadine Sullivan; and bar steward - Anthony Bates; while team manager Jordan Kemp and his assistant Danny Saunders have joined the committee along with Lyn and Tony Battrick and Alan Jordan. Town councillor Phil Harris is the new vice-chairperson of the club.

  • Chairperson indeed !! What is wrong with her being the chairwoman ? If it was a chap he would be the chairman so let us leave this gender neutral nonsense alone. She is the chairwoman and good on her....
