Did you know that one of the infamous Cambridge spies went to Gresham’s in Holt?

That, and other fascinating facts, will be revealed by Simon Kinder, the school’s former head of academic studies, in an illustrated talk at the Belfry centre for music and arts in Cromer Road, Overstrand, from 7pm on Friday, April 21.

North Norfolk Spies, Gresham’s traitors and other tales will tell the extraordinary story behind the Cambridge Spy Ring and its connections at Gresham’s School in the 1930s. One of the Cambridge spies, Donald Maclean was a former pupil at the school, which produced more traitors for the Soviet Union than any other school in Britain in the 1930s.

Mr Kinder will also expand his talk to discuss other local connections including Edgar Speyer, who lived at Sea Marge in Overstrand. The suspected spy was kicked out of Britain at the outbreak of the First World War.

Tickets, £5, are available on the door.
