A crowd of worshippers celebrated Easter today as they gathered for a walk of witness through Sheringham’s centre to the top of Beeston bump.

All of the town’s churches united for the annual Good Friday event, which saw more than 300 people join in the occasion.

The group enjoyed a service at St Peter’s before making their way to the clock tower to take part in the walk. After a time of reflection, a large 12ft wooden cross was carried to the top of Beeston bump and erected at around noon.

Rev Colin Sherwood, of the Methodist church, said: “All of the churches have an excellent working relationship in Sheringham and that is important.”

Majors Alan and Carolyn Read, of the Sheringham Salvation Army branch, read out prayers at the top of the bump.

Mr Read added: “We’ve had a representative come from all the churches and it’s been a well attended event.”

● Early risers will return on Easter Sunday for a “son-rise” service at 7am. The celebration will be followed by breakfast at the Baptist church on Holway Road.
