High winds have caused disruption to roads and schools across the county today with one Norwich school closed due to flooding.
High winds and heavy rainfall caused disruption to roads and schools across the county yesterdaywith one Norwich school closed due to flooding.
The Free School Norwich in Surrey Street was shut after water flooded the classrooms while several fallen trees blocked roads across the county.
But despite this, an Anglian Water spokesman warned against complacency and said that drought still poses a very real threat to the region despite the wet weekend, and a forecast of rain for much of this week.
Free School Norwich principal Tania Sidney-Roberts said: “Like many other businesses in the area we suffered due to flooding over the weekend and overnight on Sunday.
“Builders were at the school all day and we heard that there was a blocked storm drain on Surrey Street, which had backed up to us, causing flooding through the sinks and toilets.”
Meanwhile, a Norfolk police spokesman said three more trees fell yesterday afternoon blocking roads, on top of earlier incidents in the morning.
A large tree blocked the road in East Somerton, near Hemsby, just after 2pm and another large tree blocked a road in Clippings Green, near Mattishall, at about 12.50pm, and there were also reports of a tree blocking the road in Back Lane, Wymondham.
Early yesterday, tree debris closed Cromer Road in the north Norfolk village of Metton, a garden fence was blown into the road on the A148 in Bodham, near the Weybourne Road junction. Norwich Road in Lingwood was closed for more than three hours between Chapel Road and Homelea Crescent while engineers repaired power lines which were blown down.
The forecast is for a drier day today, with winds droppping overnight.

Obsessive-Compulsive Complaining Disorder. I blame the council if its too hot , too dry , too wet , too cold , too windy, the schools are open , if the schools are shut , excessive humidity , too cloudy , drunkeness , obesity , too many cookery programmes on TV, failure to win European song contest , annoying backgound music in local supermarket , men who think its OK to visit Sainsburys , Pound Lane wearing a vest and revealing great , fat slug like arms covered in tattos and sweaty arm pits , and the refusal of said store manager to accept my proposal of a compulsory dress code enforced by bouncers.

Typical council short-cuts. Prior Preparation Prevents Poor Performance. They must know which trees are likely to succumb in the adverse weather, yet do they have the common sense to strengthen their defences? The attitude towards adverse weather is almost as lax as the security at The Castle Museum.

That's what happens when we rely on a Victorian system and the drains aren't cleaned out on a regular basis. I suppose the next thing will be raw sewerage will be overflowing into the river because the combined drains cant cope.

Couldn't agree more Whiley. Why ever our councils cant go out and put some kind of brace on every tree in the county whenever high winds are forecast is beyond me.
