Local developer and builder Roger Codling had been on the site in Beechlands Park with other workmen during the day, but fell through floor joists being added to the flint-faced new home in the late afternoon.

Off duty air ambulance paramedic Gary Steward, who lives just a few doors away, initially helped the injured pensioner, who is well known in the village where he is also involved in the Royal British Legion.

A paramedic car arrived to give treatment at the scene before the air ambulance landed on nearby Clipped Hedge Lane and Mr Codling was stretchered the short distance to the aircraft at around 7.30pm.

He was taken to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital where he was treated for possible rib fractures.
