Sheringham students once again travelled across Europe to take part in Robotex, the continent’s biggest robotics festival.

The school sent a team to Vienna two years ago and were top British team, and this year’s competition, in Tallinn, Estonia, attracted more than 15,000 spectators, 1600 robots and 3700 competitors.

Teams must design, build and programme autonomous robots that think, act and learn in order to battle other robots or race over certain courses.

Sheringham High and Sixth Form students entered teams into the Sumo robot battles and the Folkracer categories. Both teams were the top British entries, with the Sumo team reaching the top 100 and the Folkracers the top 20.

Science teacher Rob Hazelwood said: “The competition was fierce, the location spectacular and the result fantastic. We are looking at leading our own project for local schools in the coming year to get students involved in this brilliant robot sport.”
