More than 80 drivers were stopped in two police crackdowns across north Norfolk.

Officers headed to Holt and North Walsham with teams from VOSA, the government’s vehicle safety group, to track drivers’ speed, inspect cars and look out for illegal motorists.

During the day in Holt, which included support from the safety camera partnership van, the group headed out with laser and radar speed guns to target 15 locations in and around the town including Melton Constable, High Kelling, Bodham, Corpusty, Baconsthorpe and Letheringsett.

The crackdown on Wednesday resulted in five motorists being given fixed penalty notices for speeding. More than 20 drivers were stopped and given words of advice about their speed and seven were sent on speed awareness courses.

Various other motorists were also stopped and given notices for not wearing a seatbelt, having vehicle defects, no MOT or expired tax.

The team were in North Walsham last Friday, May 4, focusing on drivers illegally using red or stolen diesel.

They took position on Midland Road and arrested one motorist for driving while disqualified and also seized two vehicles for being uninsured.

A total of 46 vehicles were stopped during the day and VOSA issued 12 prohibition notices.
