A tree planted to commemorate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee was unveiled alongside a 1950s-themed church fundraiser on Saturday.

Broadland District Council vice-chairman Roger Foulger officially unveiled the tree, which was donated by the district council and planted by Salhouse Parish Council on the Thieves Lane Recreation Ground.

Following a short ceremony attended by Salhouse Parish council vice-chairman Kerry Robbins, as well as other councillors and residents, Cllr Foulger was invited to join the 1950s tea party organised by the Salhouse Mardlers at the Jubilee Hall, in Lower Street, in aid of the All Saints Church toilet and kitchen extension.

Salhouse resident Joyce Newstead, co-founder of the Mardlers, hosted a table at which Cllr Foulger, Cllr Robbins and Rev Lorna Allies were served tea, sandwiches and homemade cakes.

At the end of the afternoon, Cllr Foulger, assisted by Rev Allies, was on hand to draw the winning raffle tickets which helped to raise £360 for the All Saints Church extension.
