The cast, made-up of year three and four pupils, have been learning Latin since September as part of the North Walsham cluster Latin project funded through a £20,500 grant from the charity Classics for All.

The local project is one of eight grants to be awarded in the country and the play was chosen to be filmed by a professional crew from London as well as a Latin lesson with a year five group at Millfield Primary and a GCSE lesson at North Walsham High School.

The voice-over commentary is by historian Bettany Hughes and will feature in a film to be shown at an event hosted by the lord mayor of London at Mansion House.

All seven primary schools involved in the project have expressed the wish to continue and to expand Latin teaching to more children next year.

Norfolk Adult Education Service will be offering a Latin for Beginners evening class at North Walsham High School from September.
