Norfolk County Council shies away from live web streaming of meetings after voting down motion

A bid to broadcast county council meetings on the Internet has failed - for now - after councillors voted against it.

A motion to live stream meetings from May was brought before the full council by Labour councillor Dave Rowntree, who also called for recordings to be made available on request.

However, the motion was lost after 45 councillors voted against its introduction - compared with 28 in favour.

The suggestion was debated at length, with the consensus from Conservative members being that they were in favour of streaming, but not in the form Mr Rowntree proposed.

Leader Cliff Jordan said the matter had already been raised by the cabinet system working group, so was best addressed at a later date.

Conservative councillor Brian Long said he supported the idea, but that it would require more advanced technology.

In support of Mr Rowntree, fellow Labour councillor Terry Jermy described the decision as “a delaying tactic”.
