New Hoveton development could accommodate up to 45 jobs

Work is set to start on transforming a Norfolk-based marine business, based in cramped offices in Hoveton which have no inside toilet, into a world-leading centre of excellence.
FW Properties Ltd has been granted planning permission to demolish an unused building and construct a new two-storey home for Benthic Solutions Limited (BSL) on Stalham Road Industrial Estate.
It also been granted outline planning permission to construct three further units to allow the business to expand and support up to 45 jobs.
Members of North Norfolk District Council’s development committee agreed the move following fears BSL, currently based in Hoveton’s Marsh Road, could have been forced to move out the area due to a lack of suitable alternative accommodation.
Julian Wells, who co-founded Norwich-based FW Properties, said: “If approved, the new building could be ready for occupation by the end of the year.”
Neighbours raised concerns over the proximity of the new building to their homes in Waveney Place and Littlewoods Lane, as well as disruption and noise from vehicles visiting the site.
The district council’s own landscape officer also objected to the scheme but planners insisted any intrusion was only “marginal”.
And, while acknowledging the new scheme would cause “disturbance to some”, Hoveton councillor Nigel Dixon added that he believed the “benefits outweighed the negatives”.
