Three generations were rescued from their car as it started to fill with sea water this evening.

The Hunstanton RNLI volunteer crew were called to Brancaster after being told about people who were stranded in a car.

Two crew members waded down the road to the vehicle, where they found three people in the car – a grandmother, her daughter and grand-daughter – who were on holiday in the area.

The tide was still rising and the grandmother was starting to show signs of distress, so the crew took the hovercraft to the car and took the women back to dry land, where they were looked after by the local coastguard.

The hovercraft returned to its station by 9.30pm.

The RNLI said visitors should check tide times, as several harbour areas and access roads flood at certain tides, and warned big tides are expected the rest of the week.
