A village school is still a good place for youngsters to learn at, an inspection has ruled.

Hickling Infant School was the subject of a short inspection by Ofsted on May 23, the first such visit since it was judged as good in 2013.

The short inspection report says the school continues to be good and in a letter said: “The leadership team has maintained the good quality of education in this small school since the previous inspection.

“In a period in which there have been several leadership and staffing changes, you have successfully preserved the caring ethos which is valued by pupils and parents.”

It adds there is a harmonious atmosphere and pupils develop into confident, reflective learners.

Ofsted said the next step is to improve communication with parents, look at how phonics learning for most able pupils is carried out and give pupils more frequent opportunities to use literacy and numeracy skills.
