More than 1000 tickets had been sold for the north Norfolk coast’s latest attraction by the end of its opening day.

Young and old alike enjoyed the new synthetic ice rink in Cromer on Monday. It has been built in the town’s North Lodge Park for the half-term holidays.

However, with the temporary structure only in place for five days, visitors are being encouraged to get their skates on to ensure they don’t miss out.

The idea was dreamt up by the Friends of North Lodge Park, who opposed plans for a car park on the site, and has been supported by North Norfolk District Council, whose chairman, Suffield Park councillor John Lee, officially opened the rink.

Barry Meadows, secretary of the Friends of North Lodge Park, said: “What we wanted to do was show that this place could be used for other things, so we thought this was a good idea for half term in Cromer and it has gone done really well.

“People are really enjoying it, we’ve sold over 1000 tickets, and we couldn’t have asked for better weather.”

The rink is being hired from a company in Lincolnshire who have over 20 years of experience with synthetic ice rinks. It comes fully equipped with enough skates for all, penguin stabilisers for children, fully trained staff and even a snow machine.

Councillor Lee added: “I’d like to say well done to the Friends for all their hard work, it looks as if it’s paid off as everyone was having great fun. I’m very pleased that NNDC agreed to support this project and I hope that in the future we can all work together to further improve the park and put on more events of this type.”

Skates are provided for the 45 minute sessions, which cost £5 per person. To book, visit the following website: http://northlodgepark.org.uk/synthetic-ice-rink-cromer

  • I went down to Cromer today to see the rink, not a single person on it and I've seen pig pens larger than what they are calling their ice rink, yet they have sold 1000 tickets???? Errrr okay, what a farce!

  • Well done, Friends of North Lodge. Came into Cromer today on business, sat in the cafe drinking coffee and then watched all the kids (large and small) having fun.
