Festive treats from Father Christmas were on offer to young visitors to a seasonal fair held at St Peter’s Church, Sheringham, at the weekend.

The event, which was organised by parochial church council treasurer Eric Dear, with the help of a team of church volunteers, included games and quizzes, stalls selling home-made cakes, crafts and preserves, and

a raffle with a first prize of a painting by well-known local artist and gallery owner Carol Pennington, who is a lay reader at St Peter’s.

Church members served up festive fayre including mulled wine and mince pies, with visitors also invited to sing along to Christmas carols from Silent Night, to Away in a Manger.

Santa was played by congregation member Richard Jonas, whose granddaughters Bethany, seven, and four-year-old Natasha helped out by donning elf outfits and handing out presents.

Mr Deer, who also organises an event every summer, hoped the fair would raise up to £1,000 for the church, which is currently undergoing work to renovate bricks damaged by salt.
