A councillor who has attended just one meeting in six months has vowed to improve her attendance record to represent her community.

Tamsin Lodge, who was elected to Broadland District Council in 2015 for the Horsford and Felthorpe ward and acts as member champion for young people, has attended no parish council meetings at Horsford and only one since July 2016 at district level.

Jim Graves, clerk to Horsford Parish Council, has written to leader of Broadland Andrew Proctor about the issue, but there are no disciplinary procedures available until a councillor fails to attend six months of meetings.

“She started off her council career as a very keen and enthusiastic councillor, willing to learn and get involved,” said Mr Proctor.
“Regrettably that has trailed off dramatically in recent months. My job is to ascertain what has changed her attitude. She knows what she needs to do, and she needs to do it.”

With their other district councillor for Horsford Joanne Keeler declaring an interest in plans for 259 homes in the village, residents have no district councillor working on their behalf on the development.

There is no requirement for district councillors to attend parish council meetings but concerns have been raised over lack of contact.

“She seems to have gone off the radar,” said Mr Graves.
“We are very concerned that with things like this big development in Horsford we haven’t got any representation on Broadland District Council.”
County councillor Tony Adams has been giving his time to represent Horsford with planning officers at a district level for the David Wilson Homes application in the absence of Ms Lodge.

Miss Lodge has said her poor record is due to the fact she has had a promotion at work and now works varying shift patterns.

“I have been unable to maintain the level of attendance I have previously,” she said. “I will try to attend as many meetings as possible. Councillor Proctor does not wish me to resign.”

Ms Lodge, a Conservative councillor, is eligible to claim a £3,567.60 allowance for her work at Broadland.

  • I think my County, and one of my District Councillors serve their people well. Doesn’t matter which party they represent as long as they show interest, turn up and support local ideas. South Norfolk County Councillor Alison Thomas visits most, if not all the Parish Council meetings in her patch, as does District Councillor Kevin Worsley. They show an interest and exchange information and put many extra hours in doing so during the evenings.

  • Atm Theresa May's poll ratings are rock solid. Funny thing is, I actually like the Jeremy Corbyn and John McDonnnels plan for the country, I just doubt that he can get us there. IF CORBYN CAN WIN THE NEXT ELECTION, THE COUNTRY WILL SEE PROPER A COUNTRY THAT WORKS FOR EVERYONE. HE NEEDS TO SHARPEN HIS IMAGE, BUT HE MUST SACK THE LABOUR REBELS AND DEAL WITH ANTI-SEMITISM, ANTI-BREXIT TALK, CRUDE LANGAUGE SPOKEN BY CANDIDATES LIKE GARETH SNELL. Paul Nuttal will win the by election in Stoke, and signal the rebirth of UKIP. The 2020 Election i predict will see Labour split in half, labour heartlands going to UKIP, the Conservatives taken more seats, lib dems taking london. and the other parties being exluded from parliment THE REAL THREAT TO THE UK IS THE FACIST SNP.

  • My District Councillor represents the ward really well. I know they go to the parish meeting and give updates because there is a specific agenda item called report from Distirct and County Ciuncillors. I k ow there's no compunction to attend, but these little extra things make the difference. Ms lodge needs to realise that if you are elected and take the allowance then you are expects to do the right thing by your electorate. If you aren't prepared to do this then you shouldn't stand for election in first place. I looked and found a Facebook page for her, so maybe Horsford should try getting hold of her that way.... Or go to her house and knock on the door. If she can't do the job then She should do the right thin and quit and let somebody else do it who really wants to help the community and not just take the money.

  • "Ms Lodge, a Conservative councillor, claims a £3,567.60 allowance for her work at Broadland.". Well, I'll go to the foot of our stairs. With all that red around I'd have sworn she was person that was in it for the money. A Tory? No, she will have a legitimate excuse. Loads and loads of them. Hundreds.

  • The report is inaccurate - contact with BDC would be able to confirm her attendance record there. There is no requirement for a district councillor to attend parish council meetings but for obvious reasons it's wise for them to keep in touch with the parishes within the ward they represent.

  • I don't think there is a requirement for District Councillors to attend Parish Council meetings, although it is sensible to do so to hear public views. Broadland officers need to clarify to the EDP and readers. the position as to whether or not this councillor has attended some committee meetings. I am sure Horsford Parish Council can represent itself on planning matters. Is there to be a by election?

  • Of course Joanne Keeler has an interest, (shouldn't that be conflict of interest?), it's her familys' land that's going to be used, the opposition will have no councilor to represent them, makes you wonder.
