Kenneth Page, from Crostwick, near Spixworth, died on Saturday, August 18.

Today’s Norwich inquest heard that Mr Page, a retired civil servant and widower, was seen going into the sea for a swim.

A short while later he was pulled from the water, after being seen face-down in the sea.

Emergency services were called but he could not be revived, and he was pronounced dead at the scene by East Anglian Air Ambulance paramedics.

A post mortem examination was carried out and the cause of death was given as drowning, with coronary artery stenosis as a contributory factor.

Norfolk coroner William Armstrong said: “It’s possible that Mr Page had experienced a cardiac event, but that cannot be established with any certainty on the basis of the evidence currently available.”

The inquest was adjourned to a date to be fixed.

As reported, a crew from the EAAA was called to the scene at around 1.25pm to reports of a

male swimmer in difficulty in the water.

Yarmouth Coastguard requested the launch of the Mundesley Inshore Lifeboat and tasked the Happisburgh Coastguard Rescue Team along with requesting a land ambulance and the air ambulance.
