Nearly 60 wartime trucks, cars and motorcycles motored through Sheringham town centre on Saturday evening, marking the end of a successful first day of the North Norfolk Railway’s “bigger and better” 1940s weekend.

Organised by the town’s carnival committee, the procession wound its way along a two-mile route, with vehicle owners travelling from as far afield as London, Leicester and Cambridge to take part.

Carnival events manager Graham Deans, who co-ordinated the parade with the help of fellow committee members and volunteers, said hundreds had turned out to watch, with more than two-and-a-half thousand expected to turn out to a people’s parade on Sunday.

“We have had a brilliant day and I think the town traders have done well,” he added. “We have had great weather, the parade has been a big success and we have even had some vehicles come on low loaders.”
