St John's Ambulance says fundraisers knocking on doors on behalf of the charity in Norfolk are not scammers after warnings were posted on social media by concerned locals this week.

People in Reepham and the nearby villages of Cawston and Corpusty reported St John's Ambulance volunteers to the police, despite them wearing the first aid charity's green uniform and carrying ID.

However, the charity has now confirmed there has been a "misunderstanding" as it uses third-party companies to carry out door to door fundraising in the area.

A St John's Ambulance spokesperson said: “Door to door fundraising allows us to share with the public the fantastic ways that their donations can help save lives.

“We use third-party companies to conduct door to door fundraising who are fully trained and abide by the Fundraising Regulator Code of Conduct.

“Our agencies do not subcontract to other agencies, which enables us to gain further control over quality.

“Our fundraisers will be dressed in the charity’s attire and have their ID badges clearly displayed for every interaction.

“Our fundraisers will collect the relevant information in the safest way possible and are able to confirm their validity and where they are currently operating if needed.”
