The future of a north Norfolk pharmacy remains uncertain after ‘extreme staff shortages’ have left villagers queuing outside for prescriptions once again.

Mundesley pharmacy, which is run by Well Pharmacy, apologised to customers earlier this year after being repeatedly forced to close during normal opening hours.

Well previously denied that the closures were caused by the pharmacy experiencing any staff shortages, but a notice was left on the door on Monday (September 11) to say that it would only be open as a ‘door service’ because of ‘extreme staff shortages’.

The notice read: ‘Due to extreme staff shortages, today we will be running a door service, serving one patient at a time.

‘Please be patient and someone will come and ask for your name at the door.

‘Sorry for any inconvenience caused.’

Vanessa Waistnidge said she waited in a queue outside the pharmacy for 45 minutes.

“Many elderly people were struggling while waiting, as it was a long time to stand,” she said.

“A few people went last Friday (September 8) and had to wait an hour to be told they didn’t have their medication, and that it wouldn’t be delivered until this week.”

Well Pharmacy has apologised to customers for the staff the shortages.

A Well Pharmacy spokesperson said: “We’d like to apologise to customers for current staff shortages at Well Mundesley.

"We’re seeking to rectify these as a matter of urgency – and in the meantime would urge patients to sign up for text alerts so we can let them know when their prescriptions are ready to collect as this will save them time.”
