Patricia Wood

Patricia Wood
Patricia Wood was born in Zimbabwe, where her father worked as an electrician. She returned to the UK as a youngster and, after leaving school, attended Birmingham College of Art and Design.

Patricia then went on to study fine art at Norwich School of Art, where she met her future husband Adrian.

While Adrian went on to train as a joiner and cabinet maker, Patricia concentrated on bringing up the couple’s two children, also working part time exploring silk screen painting and silk painting.

After the family moved to Ingworth in 1993, she used silk painting to portray the local landscape, producing expressive and colourful paintings using a batik method.

Wanting to return to work full-time, Patricia decided that running her own gallery would be a good way of supporting her fellow North Norfolk artists, and, three years ago, she and Adrian took over Affinity Arts at Alby Crafts, Erpingham, where Patricia had been a business partner since 1999.

"I find displaying work in the gallery is almost like a work of art in itself, and it is lovely to be able to meet and support local artists and craftspeople," she said.

Patricia, who now concentrates on painting in pastels, last year produced a series of paintings of north Norfolk coastal towns and villages including Cromer and Weybourne.

"I am inspired by anything natural and I just love bright colour and patterns," she said. "I love the area here because of the wonderful light and the effect it has on the landscape. I also find the contrast between the intricate patterns in flowers and grasses and the wider landscape really inspiring."

Patricia's work, which has been exhibited in Norwich, Somerset and London, is held in private collections in the UK, Australia and America Her paintings are also on show at Affinity Arts, Alby Crafts, Erpingham. Phone 01263 761590 or visit www.albycrafts.co.uk
