Bob Gay
After leaving Langley School, Loddon, Bob Gay dreamed of going to art college. But instead, he studied at agricultural college before starting work at his family's farm on part of the Blickling Estate.

"I nearly went to Norwich School of Art a couple of times," he said. "But the thing about farming is that is a way of life that takes everything over, so there is not really room to do anything else."

But, after 25 years in farming, he turned again to his boyhood dream when, inspired by his beautiful surroundings, he began making pen and ink studies of Blickling Hall.

Bob went on to produce further pictures, with subjects including North Lodge Park at Cromer, and the centre of Holt.

Encouraged by John and Margaret James, of Church Street Gallery, Cromer, he began exhibiting his work.

As well as making original pen and ink drawings, Bob has had a range of prints and greetings cards produced by Jim Witherspoon of the Stable Gallery, Kelling, and, last year, he staged his first exhibition at Picturecraft, Holt.

"I think my main inspiration comes from living and working at Blickling since I was a boy, but I also love Cromer, as it has been a place that my family has always come to," Bob said.

Despite his busy life as a farmer, he has found time to attend an art course in Norwich, and, in the future, hopes to fulfil his dream of becoming a full-time artist.
